pace down a bit. As the night went on, I found myself getting tired, bored and wanting to disengage from the environment. I just wanted to go home. I reminded myself that I was there to do a professional job and I needed to be present and “in the room”.
In my book “Take Charge Of Your Aviation Career” I talk about the need to be a professional. In the aviation industry, there are seasons of down-time. However, the tendency to want to stay in that mode is great when your bored. We must remind ourselves to stay mentally alert and “in the room”. Accidents, incidents can happen very quickly. The need to be able to think accurately and concisely is important in those times. Don’t give in to the holiday blues. Stay focused and engaged when you are on the job.
